Cambridge Enterprise Opens London Hub to Accelerate Global Innovation

Cambridge Enterprise, the commercialisation arm of the University of Cambridge, has taken a bold step to amplify its global impact by opening a new office in London’s King’s Cross. This strategic move places Cambridge Enterprise at the heart of the UK’s thriving tech sector, just 48 minutes by train from Cambridge and adjacent to Google’s new European headquarters. The new hub is designed to bridge the innovation ecosystems of Cambridge and London, creating fresh opportunities for collaboration, investment, and talent attraction.

The timing couldn’t be better. The University of Cambridge has been recognized as one of the UK’s leading universities for spinouts, with 26 new companies launched in 2024 alone. The East of England, home to Cambridge, secured 35% of all investment in UK spinouts that year. Notably, 2024 marked a record-breaking year for Cambridge-founded tech companies, which collectively raised $2.2 billion—double the amount raised in 2023 and surpassing the previous high of 2021.

Jim Glasheen, Chief Executive of Cambridge Enterprise, emphasized the significance of the new London base: “Our new London office represents a strategic investment in Cambridge innovation and entrepreneurialism. By establishing this base in King’s Cross, we aim to increase engagement with national and international players, from investors to partners, whilst creating new pathways for our most promising spinouts.” Glasheen highlighted that Cambridge researchers are addressing some of the world’s most urgent challenges, and this expansion will help ensure their breakthroughs reach those who need them most, faster.

With this move, Cambridge Enterprise is set to strengthen its ties with the broader innovation community, driving forward its ambition to take Cambridge’s expertise to the world.
